Youth Scholarships
Scholarship opportunities through Alpacas of Oklahoma are available for your child to assist with costs associated with attending the National Alpaca Shows. This qualifying year began on January 1. 2024. The child must meet certain requirements throughout the 2024 calendar to qualify for the scholarship for associated costs of the March 2025 National Show, which will actually be held at the Grady County Fairgrounds in Chickasha, Oklahoma. While you won’t have much in the way of travel and hotel costs at this 2025 show, this scholarship will certainly help with registration fees and stall fees.
A-OK will award three scholarships for the 2025 show—good for up to $500 each in associated show costs. At future National Shows that are outside Oklahoma, the travel and accommodations costs can also be included (again, the maximum amount of each scholarship is $500 for this first year; the Board will determine annually how many scholarships will be awarded for each calendar year and the value of each scholarship).
Please review the Guidelines and Application. It is important to be aware of the requirements so that your child can meet them through the 2024 calendar year. The first requirement is that your child must complete the process to be a Junior Member of Alpacas of Oklahoma. There is not a fee for Junior Members, but they must submit an online membership request prior to participating in a sanctioned A.O.A. Show. Therefore, if your child is attending TXOLAN in February 2024 (or other subsequent shows) and wants to qualify for a scholarship, you must submit their membership request now (see above).
Special Qualification Note
For those who only plan to attend the Oklahoma show, keep in mind that they must earn at least “one” blue ribbon at any show throughout the year to qualify. So, the more shows (i.e., other states) they attend, the higher their chance of earning a blue ribbon—but they must attend at least one show and the Oklahoma show will qualify for that. Applications will be accepted during the month of December 2024. Awards will probably be announced around the first of February 2025.
