About Alpacas of Oklahoma
Although the initial importation of alpacas into American began in the mid 1980’s, Oklahoma’s alpaca industry did not begin to mature until the late 1990′s. By 2002, 14 alpaca farms were active in Oklahoma and it was determined that these Oklahoma alpaca pioneers could best be served by forming their own alpaca organization.
Alpacas of Oklahoma was formed as an official affiliate of the national organization, Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association (AOBA) in 2004, with 14 farms in Oklahoma. Today there are 44 farms, with more expected. Known by our membership as “A-OK,” Alpacas of Oklahoma provides its members with a wide variety of services designed to support existing farms and ranches in addition to welcoming those who are new to the alpaca industry. A-OK adds value to the alpaca experience and gives its members a resource that supports the health and welfare of our wonderful, huggable friends.
