Dr. Hull’s Resume
Dr Steve Hull grew up on a small New England farm and rediscovered
livestock (alpacas) in the mid 1990s. Together with his veterinarian
business partner (Tom Cameron, DVM) spouses and families, they started a
small suri farm on a wooded lot in Edmond, Oklahoma (TimberLake Farms,
Inc).
At the time, Steve was a professor at the University of Oklahoma College
of Medicine where he taught and researched neurocardiology, but within
just a few years, Steve took early retirement to be the farm full time
pooper scooper.
Steve soon assisted national education and served as AOBA’s first
Education Committee chair (2000) and then ran for AOBA’s board. He
served two terms as AOBA secretary and later as vice president. He also
served on the Alpaca Registry committees and was responsible for
recommending the use of FTA cards instead of whole blood for registering
crias.
Education is Steve’s passion. He has given seminars at literally
hundreds of alpaca events both here in the USA and internationally. He
uses humor, (mostly directed at himself, but best at his business
partner!), as well as pointing out the subtle mistakes that most people
miss.
He now resides on a 40 acre farm where he jokes that PhD stands for
“posthole digger” and the “small” suri farm is now the largest in
Oklahoma. Steve also does private “on farm” as well as telephone
consults.

Alpacas of Oklahoma is proud to sponsor the 3rd annual Alpaca Blastoff. We are a AOBA affiliate certified show
Saturday and Sunday will host the full fleece halter classes with youth and performance classes. There will be a fleece show and spin off show on display. A silent auction including herdsire breedings will give you an opportunity to also support the Alpaca Research Foundation.
Saturday at noon will be the “herdsire showcase”. A chance to see some of the top of the line herdsires in the area.
This is the Iinternational Year of Natural Fiber and the fiber village will have demonstrations on fleece prep, weaving, spinning. Greg Davis will demonstrate rope making. He will use alpaca yarn to make lead ropes. You are encouraged to bring your alpaca yarn for a one of a kind lead rope.
Vendors with alpaca related goods and services will attend. The banquet on Saturday night will feature Dr. Brett Kaysen.

Our Blast Off Show is just around the corner. This will be your opportunity to volunteer your skills.
The Board has been busy and has lots to share.
Our Blast Off Show is the kick off to the International Year of Natural Fiber as designated by the United Nations.

All are welcome to bring those bags of fleece you want to skirt. This is a great opportunity to spend a Sunday afternoon visiting with other alpaca ranchers and playing with your fiber. The Robinson’s have again offered their barn for the afternoon, so dress appropriately. You will learn the key elements of fleece presentation for show or processing. The fleeces will be ready to enter in a show. How to properly collect a sample for a spin off entry will also be demonstrated.
