About Alpacas of Oklahoma
Although the initial importation of the Alpaca into American began in the mid 1980’s, Oklahoma’s Alpaca industry did not begin to mature until the late 1990’s. By 2002, 14 Alpaca farms were active in Oklahoma and it was determined that these Oklahoma alpaca pioneers could best be served by forming their own alpaca organization. Alpacas of Oklahoma was formed as an official affiliate of the national organization, Alpaca Owners Association (AOA) in 2004, with the first 14 farms in Oklahoma.
Today there are many farms/ranches in Oklahoma—some are members and some are not. Known by our membership as “A-OK” our group provides its members with a wide variety of services designed to support existing farms and ranches in addition to welcoming those who are new to the Alpaca industry. A-OK adds value to the Alpaca experience and gives its members a resource that supports the health and welfare of our wonderful, approachable friends. Most especially, we are well known for our quarterly meetings that feature education, fellowship, networking and food!
